Victoria Gereluk, Real Estate Manager, Fire & Flower Cannabis Co.
I currently work as the Real Estate Manager for Fire & Flower and have been with the company for 3 years. I've been in commercial real estate for over 5 years. Currently, with CREW, I am the chair of the Future Leaders committee.
What originally drew you to CREW? Can you tell us about your path to being on the Board of Directors?
I was first introduced to CREW through a previous employer who really encouraged me to join, and then again through another couple work connections! I joined CREW in late 2018 and was quickly very excited about the Future Leaders committee and their objectives. An opportunity came up to be the chair of that committee and participate as a board member shortly after I joined, so I jumped on the opportunity!
What is the biggest benefit of CREW for you?
CREW has been great for meeting new people in the industry and learning from all of the incredible members and their experiences in CRE. CREW has helped me have more self confidence as a young professional and has allowed me the opportunity to grow more outside of my company but still within the industry. I don't think I would have joined the Board if not for CREW being such a supportive and encouraging atmosphere to be a part of.
What are your favourite aspects of your job? Can you share what motivates your success and drive?
I think my favourite aspect of my job has been the ability to see it grow from quite literally the ground up. We still have that start-up energy in our blood that I find really motivating, but most of all, I have a high level of autonomy in my job which is most motivating to me. I appreciate the trust in my organization that gives me the space to succeed. I've gotten to learn so much in my job and have been able to travel all over the country - to small towns & big cities alike.
Tell us about your best CREW memory to-date.
My favourite memory to date has been the CREW AGM in 2019 at Biera. I wasn't feeling up to networking and was planning to have a shorter evening. I ended up talking to a couple people I knew, who introduced me to their friends in CREW, and we all ended up talking later into the evening when most people had left. It made me feel like I met a great, supportive group of people.
Do you have advice for someone who wants to join the CRE industry?
Jump on the opportunities available to you! Take chances! Other than that I'd say really focus on building authentic relationships in the industry. I've never met someone who has said no to a coffee so that you can pick their brain.
Since we're all spending a little more time at home these days, can you share a favourite book, podcast, or show recommendation? Tell us what you love about it.
I've been listening to Normal Adult Human (podcast) now and then and it's one of my favourites. It's very relatable for a variety of concerns & feelings we all have. I'm also just finishing the book Code Breaker which is about CRISPR technology - it's written in an accessible way and is very interesting!
