Kara Engley, Treasurer, Edmonton CREW, Controller, Camgill Development Corporation
I oversee the financial reporting for our Canadian portfolio and have been in CRE for 13 years, all with Camgill. I'm serving my second year as Treasurer for CREW.
What originally drew you to CREW? Can you tell us about your path to being on the Board of Directors?
My CFO, Melanie Ducholke, is a Past President and introduced me to CREW through several events, including Breaking Ground. She started as Treasurer and recommended me for the role.
What is the biggest benefit of CREW for you?
The variety of events and exposure to so many outstanding women.
What are your favourite aspects of your job? Can you share what motivates your success and drive?
Dealing with huge amounts of data and figuring out the most efficient way to organize and present it so that it makes sense. Problem-solving and continuous process improvement would be my main drives, all in an effort to help my team provide the most accurate and useful information to our partners.
Tell us about your best CREW memory to-date.
The 2020 winter summit. It was a great experience and my last trip before COVID.
Do you have any advice for someone who wants to join the CRE industry?
You'll never be bored, there is so much variety in the people, the deals, and the experiences. You'll always learn something new.
Since we’re all spending a little more time at home these days, can you share a favourite book, podcast, or show recommendation? Tell us what you love about it.
I've been catching up on the dozens of horror moves sitting in my queue. The most exciting find so far has been a movie called "Come True". About halfway through the movie, we started to recognize all kinds of different spots in Edmonton, though we had no idea that it had been filmed here. It was fun to try and point out all of the locations we recognized.
